Colombia expects to receive 2,650,000 tourists in 2009

Colombia Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Luis Guillermo Plata said his country expects 2,650,000 tourists in 2009.

The Minister announced the figure at the 18th National Meeting of Tourism Authorities, held on the Caribbean island of San Andres. 130 delegates from 26 departments and 90 surrounding municipalities in Colombia assembled there to discuss and promote competitiveness in the country's tourism sector.

The figure is up from the 2 348,948 visitors the country received in 2008.

Plata said he expected tourism to bring in $U.S 2,609 million to Colombia in 2009.
