Bogotá enjoys night without murder

Last Saturday was the first night in more than year that no murders were registered in Colombia's capital Bogotá, the Police announced Sunday.

According to police deputy commander Yesid Vásquez, no one died of violence in between 6PM Saturday evening until 6AM Sunday morning.

"We are very pleased to have achieved this record that we haven't seen in more than a year. We should honor the good behaviour of the citizens, the commitment of our men and the preventive measures that have been taken," Vásquez said.

One of the preventive measures taken by the authorities is the ban on firearms during Christmas. Usually, up to six people are murdered in the capital on a Saturday night, Caracol Radio reports.
