Bogotá proposes 24-hour nightlife

Colombia news - Skyline Bogotá

Don’t want to end the party? Come to Bogota and soon you might be able to keep the party going all night long, the mayor’s office of Bogota is proposing.

Secretary of the Mayor’s Office Clara Lopez, who previously led efforts to regulate clandestine places that stayed open past the city’s 3 a.m. last call, has proposed to keep bars and clubs open 24 hours a day in certain areas of Bogota.

"It’s one thing to allow all 49,500 businesses to stay open 24 hours and it’s another to have 10 or 15 places with a special license," argued the secretary.

Lopez said that her proposal will have to be taken to congress and enacted into law in order for it to take effect.

The licenses would be granted under a legal process with parameters that guarantee fairness to all who apply, explained Lopez.
