Colombian referee Ruiz to feature at World Cup

Colombia news - Oscar Ruiz

Although Colombia's national team failed to make it to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the country will be represented by referee Oscar Julian Ruiz who has been selected by FIFA for the tournament.

The world governing body of soccer announced on Friday a list of 30 refereeing teams that are to oversee the matches in June and July.

Ruiz, 40, is one of six Latin American referees to have been selected and is set to experience his second World Cup after refereeing the match between the Netherlands and Cote d'Ivoire at the 2006 tournament in Germany.

The Colombian also blew his whistle at five editions of the Copa America, and led three finals of the Copa Libertadores.

The Villavicencio-born referee, who will undergo a final test in May, will be assisted by fellow countrymen Abraham Gonzalez and Humberto Clavijo.
