Saturday's city classic between Atletico Nacional and Independiente Medellin ended undecided, while Deportes Tolima secured their spot in the group phase.
Copa Mustang II leaders Independiente Medellin knew that all pressure was on arch rivals Nacional to win. Nacional are almost certain of qualification for the next round, but a win against their traditional enemies would have left things practically decided.
Nacional did dominate throughout the game, but never found a way past Medellin's defense and goalkeeper Bobadilla.
Medellin remain in first place and will stay there until the end of the regular season. Nacional are fourth and are still well on course to reach the next round.
Deportes Tolima beat America de Cali 2-0, enough to secure their spot in the second round. Davinson Monsalve scored the opener in the 11th minute, and Rodrigo Marangoni doubled the advantage in minute 37.
America's Jose Velez was sent off with a second yellow card in the 39th minute.

... Living near the stadium. We and all my neighbors pray for a tie as the damage done all around the stadium by a bunch of punk thugs when one beats the other is totally unbelievable. Medellin should make these two teams play at an away site, but I doubt anyone would take them...especially the National thugs....prior to this game the last three games required tear gas to make the national punks go away....right in front of my home....now I like everyone in my neighborhood hate futbol.... We have seen an big improvement in the last couple weeks due to the 1300 national police. |
