Colombia eliminate Argentina at Under-17 World Cup

Colombia news - Colombia fans

Colombia are through to the quarter finals of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup following a heroic come-back against Argentina in the round of sixteen.

Things initially looked grim for the Colombians as Leandro Pirez scored the opener for Argentina in the 17th minute and Sergio Araujo made it 2-0 in the 57th.

But Colombia improved their performance and scored one back through Jeison Murillo in the 64th minute.

Colombia then had a good opportunity to equalize as Argentina defender Espindola handled the ball with a second yellow card and a penalty as result. Cuellar took the spot kick and thought to have scored, but referee Stark disallowed it. On the second attempt, Cuellar hit the right post.

Colombia never gave up however and Jeancarlos Blanco found the target for 2-2 in the 88th minute.

Having been the better side since Argentina's second goal, the Colombians didn't want to wait for extra time and a well-performed counter-attack allowed Hector Quiñones to net the winner from within the penalty area.

Colombia play their quarter final against the winner of the match between Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. That match will be played on Sunday in the Nigerian city of Bauchi.
