Rodallega gets work permit to play at Wigan

Wigan is set to complete the signing of Hugo Rodallega from Necaxa after the Colombia striker was given a work permit to play in Britain.

The British government granted Rodallega the permit at a meeting in Manchester on Monday.

Wigan will reportedly pay about $7 million (euro5.3 million) to the Mexican team although the Premier League club said the 23-year-old forward still has to pass a medical examination.

"He is strong and quick, with an eye for goal and if he is anything like the other South and Central American imports we have brought in to the club, we have netted another gem," Wigan manager Steve Bruce said.

Bruce already has Honduras international Wilson Palacios, Ecuador midfielder Luis Antonio Valencia and on-loan Honduras defender Maynor Figueroa, who scored the winning goal in Sunday's 1-0 Premier League win over Tottenham. (AP)
