Colombian swine flu casualties reach 205

205 people have died of the AH1N1 virus, or swine flu, in Colombia since it first appeared in May last year, health authorities said on Tuesday.

In total, 142,560 Colombian have been infected by the illness, which spread around the world after it was first registered in Mexico.

According to statistics by the National Health Institute, all but one Colombian departments have had to deal with swine flu infections in the eight months of the illness's activity in the country. The remote Guainia department is the only one that remained free of infections.

Most affected by the illness were the country's capital Bogota and the surrounding Cundinamarca department and the departments of Antioquia and Valle del Cauca.

The virus was most active in August and September last year, when authorities confirmed a high level of cases.
