Four indigenous Colombians, including a 20-month-old baby, were injured during a Colombian military attack on a FARC unit in the north west of the country.

The army evacuated a couple to a Medellin hospital due to the severity of their injuries, WRadio reported Monday.

Indigenous authorities said the couple's son and another person had also been evacuated to different facilities to receive medical attention.

William Carupia from the Indigenous Organization of Antioquia condemned the attack and said that the victims had been fired on from military helicopters.

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe responded in defense of the armed forces Monday, saying that the air force is always very "careful" not to bomb guerrilla paths which are located close to indigenous settlements.
