US blacklists new Colombian drug cartel

The U.S. Treasury announced Thursday the addition of a new narco-trafficking group to its blacklist.

The group is allegedly run by Ramon Quintero Sanclemente, who was previously involved with the North Valle cocaine cartel. Nineteen other persons and sixteen entitities were included in the listing, for their suspected involvement in Quintero Sanclamente's organisation.

The Treasury office said in a statement that "Ramon Quintero Sanclemente was a top-level lieutenant in the North Valle drug cartel who now heads his own significant drug trafficking organization in Colombia."

Addition to the narco-trafficker blacklist freezes any of an individual's assets that are under U.S. jurisdiction, and bans U.S. citizens from financial dealings with them.

The Treasury also asserted that Quintero Sanclemente has close ties with Calle Luis Enrique Serna, known as "Comba", a drug dealer based in Cali.
