The Colombian government wants to stop an Argentinean documentary about the FARC from being shown around the world, the country's foreign minister said on Thursday.
In the documentary, which has been online since December 16, but wasn't picked up until earlier this week, rebels of the country's largest guerilla group claim their war against the State is financed by the revenue of crops like corn, and not by coca.
The government, following failed peace talks in 2002, consistently dub the rebels "narco-terrorists," while the guerrillas claim to fight for a more just Colombia. The United States and Europe added the Marxist guerrillas to their list of terrorist groups because of ongoing human rights violations and war crimes committed by the rebels.
"All of Colombia knows well that this is about terrorist criminals. We have discussed the importance that foreign governments are aware of any kind of broadcast that makes an apology for committing crimes or terrorism," Bermudez told reporters.
"We also ordered our ambassadors to inform our Colombian communities abroad to be vigilant for this type of manifestations. Colombia must be united in this because we have suffered terrorism and know exactly who the FARC are," the foreign minister added.

... Sure, why wouldn't they have to grow corn? If they don't have sympathizers that give them food supplies they can't fight. It's easy to see the Government burning their food stock, it's the idea that goes on in a lot of wars. |

... And Chavez is the one violating freedom of speech? WOW. Since when does Venezuela launch international campaigns to block documentaries or news reports on Hugo Chavez? |

... Jesus, Andrew. To quote the bird, "Give me a f****** break." They don't need sympathizers to give them food. They just take what they want including my wife's grandmother's finca. Grandma is dead and buried and the finca is still in the hands of the thieves. |

... The arguments in here are useless. We have all been repeating the same rhetoric for years. Why isn't there a cry to publish who the Argentine documenters are and go after them? Michael Moore has been greatly minimized because his detractors go after his source material which is easy to discredit. It is simple for FARC to find sympathizers just open the window and they will fly in like a horde of bugs. When I read an article that supports FARC enough to make me suspicious I find out who wrote the article and what his/her politics are...easy to do. If you want to discredit FARC the easiest way is to follow the money. But also remember that FARC is more than a political war group...they are also responsible for millions of dollars coming into the Colombian coffers, mostly the government. And from there is quickly disappears. Also, who let these documenters into Colombia? How did they get the material they wrote? They have many friends in Colombia that's how. Right Gustavo? |

... @andrew, Chavez doesn't need to , he stops them before they ever get a chance to leave the country. I personally think Colombia is wrong to try and block this, one being a gringo and my spanish being so-so, I watched the clip posted here a few days ago on another site, I took they were stealing the corn not growing it. after all how many famers do you know pick their corn with rilfle strapped on , they also damaged the plant in the process. That is the impression most non spanish speaker will take away from this film. IInstead of trying to block it , I would suggest Colomians living abroad to hold rally's every wher eit is shown to educate those who go to view it if the truth about the FARC. |

... Only misinformed, uneducated, unaware and ignorant fools would be stupid enough to believe this filth that FARC create. This documentary is nothing more than the desperate attempt of a criminal, outdated, exposed and fortunately dying organisation to cling onto whatever sympathy they may gain outside of Colombia. I urge whoever happens to come across this junk to dismiss it as a vile lie!! FARC kill, maim, rape, pillage, kidnap, traffic on drugs and extort the civilian population in order to finance their war on the very people they claim to stand for and 'defend'. |
