Bolivian President Evo Morales, claimed Tuesday the U.S. encouraged drug trafficking and terrorism in Colombia to justify it's military presence there.
In press conference Morales indicated his view that Colombia had maintain anti-drug accords with the U.S. since 1952, yet they have not been able to eradicate the country's drug trade.
"I am convinced that the United States encouraged drug trafficking in Colombia to justify a military base there," stressed Morales, reported newspaper El Espectador Tuesday.
The Bolivian president also indicated that although he did not have information on the status of the FARC guerrillas in 1952, the U.S. also "promoted terrorism in order to justify North American presence [in Latin America]."
"Wherever the empire is present there will never be integration, nor peace, nor the assurance of democracy, nor the development of that country. The empire always comes accompanied by military bases," Morales further declared.
According to Morales the U.S. use of military bases on Colombian soil is actually an invasion of South America, where a rebellion exists in countries such as Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia against such presence.
Morales is among various Latin American leaders who have strongly opposed the Colombia - U.S. agreement, which was signed in November and allows for the U.S. military to use some seven airbases throughout Colombia.

... Just like he always does, Evo is again making comments and accusations without a shred of evidence. That doesn't make any sense for the United States to promote terrorism. There's a base in Cuba and I don't think anyone honestly believes the US promoted communism so they could have a base in Cuba. |

... There is plenty of evidence to support his assertions if you'd only care to look; try Operation Watch-Tower as a starting point and move backwards of forwards any number of years to see US drug running activities in columbia, venezuela, vietnam and burma amongst others . Cuba has nothing to do with this article but there is a reason unrelated to drugs or communism that the base is there. |

... The Marine Base in Cuba, is from a very long time ago before anything other than opium was controlled for being well known. Really knowing this situation has a lot more to do with knowing Military Intelligence. They leave a lot of absences for their own best interests, I am in fact not even fighting a crime that I committed due to stress. But trying to get them to admit, that they watched me for Knowing Uribe and a retired Marine Intelligence officer (or so claimed Intelligence, it seems to be lacking). A lot of it crossed into the Mafia, it caused a microphone in my apartments floor the summer of 2001. I was talked to about growing pot for secret military operations (funding). I know they move cocaine, I know they destabilize anything that has nothing to do with them! If you so much as pick up a your own property in a way that displeases them your going to suffer! It is all about them having no respect for anyone that doesn't wear their uniform. I don't need to bring in the Uribe name, but why wouldn't the US Military care deeply as well as the Mafia if I knew one! It made me a nobody because they feel so much more secure having that, but I am only out to make them feel more insecure as that is what they really are! Not good for peace tables, they don't read peoples minds they just reject and get offended to have horrible life changing consequences for anyone. I was told they would strait up kill me over magical religion, shamanism. POINT BLANK |
