Former FARC hostage and ex vice-presidential candidate Clara Rojas joined the Colombian Liberal Party and hopes to run as one of their candidates for Congress in the 2010 election.

On Monday the former hostage sought official acceptance to the Liberal Party from party leader and former Colombian President Cesar Gaviria Trujillo, reported newspaper El Espectador.

Rojas is looking to earn a position in Congress in the March 2010 elections.

According to El Espectador, on Tuesday at 3PM Trujillo will accompany Rojas to the Senate where her name will be officially inscribed onto the Liberal Party's list.

Rojas was kidnapped by the FARC along with her former boss and friend Ingrid Betancourt in early 2002 and liberated in 2008.
