Juanes wins National Peace Prize

Colombia news - Gracias juanes

Colombian rocker Juanes was awarded his country's annual National Peace Prize on Sunday for his work for landmine victims and his efforts to improve understanding between peoples.

The annual award is organized by The United Nations Development Programme together with the Colombian media.

Juanes received this year's honor because he is "the artist most involved with the problems generated by the armed conflict in Colombia" and because of his efforts to improve understanding between peoples and governments through his Peace Without Borders concerts.

The singer has a foundation, Mi Sangre, that is devoted to helping victims of landmines, and has held concerts on the Colombian-Venezuelan border and in Cuba to promote peace.
