Colombia to remain without satellite

satellite, colombia news, rusia

Bid to construct Colombian satellite abandoned Monday because proposed contractor's conditions did not meet those demanded by Colombian authorities.

The proposal presented by the Russian consortium Intersputnik ISS, willing to design, develop, build and launch the first Colombian satellite 'SATCOL' into orbit was ruled unacceptable by the evaluating committee selected by Colombia's Ministry for Information and Technology Communications.

The Russian proposal was rejected because its conditions did not comply with those set by Colombian authorities, and furthermore violated legal principles of transparency and objectivity.

According to news site Dinero, the proposal did not include, among other things, complete costs and values of the project nor salaries and benefits for workers.

Does Colombia really need a satellite? Colombia doesn't even have the money to build roads or train tracks, and yet they want to launch a communications satellite? How exactly does this benefit the people?
