Colombian intelligence agency DAS and opposition Senator Piedad Cordoba disagree over the identity of a suspect arrested for alleged guerrilla ties.
DAS maintain that the suspect, Ivan Danilo Alarcon, is a FARC operative wanted for rebellion and drug trafficking.
According to Cordoba, Alarcon is a human rights activist who works with communities in the Cauca department.
DAS director Felipe Muñoz told Caracol Radio that Cordoba is either misinformed or lying.
Cordoba said the DAS is lying. She told CM& that there were irregularities in Alcarcon's arrest.
A mob assaulted three DAS agents last Sunday in Cali as they tried to arrest Alcaron.
Muñoz says Alarcon cried out he was being kidnapped and 100 people surrounded the officers. The crowd detained the agents for over an hour, threatened them with death and took their weapons and armored vests.
DAS agent Alexander Benavides Monroy told CM& that the crowd wanted to cut off his hand with a saw because he was handcuffed to Alarcon.
The crowd eventually freed Alarcon from the handcuffs, and he fled.
DAS agent Alexander Benavides Monroy said
Muñoz said Sunday that Alarcon apparently posed as a human rights activist but was in fact giving logistical support to the FARC.
