Mexico and Dominican Republic to call Uribe about hostages: Cordoba

Colombia news - Piedad Cordoba

The Presidents of Mexico and the Dominican Republic will be contacting their Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe in the next few days to urge progress in the deadlocked release of two hostages held by the FARC, opposition Senator Piedad Cordoba said Sunday.

According to Cordoba, Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Dominican President Leonel Fernandez will urge Uribe to make commitments concerning guarantees the guerrillas ask for the deadlocked release of two members of the security forces.

The FARC and the church, mediating the release, have done what is in their power to make sure the release of the two hostages can move forward and it is now the government's turn to compromise, the senator said.

On Saturday, Alvaro Uribe stressed his government already has given the guarantees necessary for a release, but said the armed forces would not seize their attempts to militarily liberate hostages.

The FARC is holding 24 members of the security forces hostage, some for more than eleven years.

why can't she just let the church the government and th eFARC work things out and stop stucking her nose where it is not wanted. It has become clear she views herself more important then the hostages being released by her continued interference in the process.
