
Colombia's Armed Forces shot dead the alleged security boss of 'Alfonso Cano', leader of the FARC, in an operation in the central department of Tolima on Monday.
In the early hours of Monday morning, an Army offensive against a guerrilla camp in the Tolima region of Las Hermosas Canyon succeeded in killing three members of the Alfonso Cano security ring.
Army sources stated that one of those killed was allegedly a relative of a close confidant of the FARC's supreme leader however, names have yet to be confirmed. All three are believed to be part of Alfonso Cano's security ring.
Authorities have claimed that this band of guerrillas, known as the 'Heroes of Marquetalia' were responsible for abductions, extortion and threats towards the population Tolima and neighboring Huila, reported Colombian media on Monday.
In addition to killing guerrillas, Army personnel confiscated equipment, ammunition and AK-47s from the operation site
