War in Colombia prevents victims from accessing health services and is causing growing restrictions on the entry of humanitarian agencies into the country, says Doctors Without Borders.
The humanitarian organization currently works in 13 Colombian departments and according to Caracol, the Humanitarian Coordinator for the organization, Victor Lugo Correa, warned that there exists a complete "disregard on the part of the armed groups for humanitarian work."
Correa was quoted adding that "there are realities that the teams face [in Colombia]. Armed conflict, the presence of combatants and perpetual fear."
The organization called on armed groups throughout the country to respect humanitarian work and also requested that the national government make a greater effort to ensure that humanitarian agencies and NGOs are able to continue working in Colombia.
