US$2 million found in suitcase in intercepted aircraft

dollar, narcotrafico, colombia news

A suitcase containing US$2 million was found on Monday in a small aircraft which Colombia's Air Force and Police forcibly landed in the department of Cordoba. The occupants of the aircraft managed to escape.

The plane, which was entering Colombia's northern territory of Uraba allegedly coming from Central America, was detected by the Colombian Air Force and the Narcotics Police because it lacked a flight plan and was falsely registered.

Officials on the ground were sent to the landing site to inspect the aircraft, where they discovered the suitcase containing the two million dollars inside the plane, claimed the official statement by the Colombian Air Force on Tuesday.

Authorities believe the plane was being used for drug trafficking services and investigations are underway to locate the occupants, who managed to escape the scene in a speedboat that was later found abandoned in a nearby swamp.
