UN concerned over reintegration of demobilized paramilitaries

UNHCR

The United Nations (UN) expressed concern over the reintegration of demobilized paramilitaries, victims and Justice and Peace judges in the face of a recent growth of criminal groups in Colombia.

A report released by the UN identifies a strong link between the actions of these groups and the increase in the number of homicides, especially in the Pacific region and in the departments of Cauca, Guajira, Bolivar, and Santander.

The UN called attention to an increase in the cases of threats and intimidation against victims as well as forced displacement in Chocó and Nariño, which have recently witnessed an increase in massacres, mobility restrictions and the forced recruitment of youth and minors, Caracol Radio reported Monday.

The report calls for increased efforts to protect victims and judicial workers in order to ensure comprehensive assistance to victims.
