Colombia to export field rations to international militaries

ejercito, colombia news

Colombia's Defense Ministry announced on Thursday that it intends to expand the production of coffee and field rations to supply international military troops, with proposed funding of 26 billion COP per year.

Colombian Ministry of Defense logistics agency will assemble 10 different menus, previously imported from the U.S, to supply 240 thousand army soldiers, 44 thousand marines and 8 thousand pilots, reported Colombian media on Thursday.

The logistics director stated "a plant has been established in Colombia to enable us to produce our own rations in order to supply our own soldiers." The director added, "[in Colombia] we produce eight thousand rations daily which is 1.6 million per year at a cost of approximately 26 billion COP."

Colombia has already marketed their new rations to Chile and the Dominican Republic and plans to export them into Central America.

In addition, the rations logistics agency is producing coffee for export. With the new production plant, Colombia will be able to pack around four thousand pounds of coffee per day.
