Former paramilitary chief Uber Enrique 'Juancho Dique' Banquez Martínez has admitted to authorities that he participated in the massacre, in which over 60 people were murdered.

'Juancho Dique', member of the Heroes of Montes de Maria Bloc, admitted to a human rights prosecutor that he was guilty of aggravated homicide and forced displacement, reported Caracol Radio.

Paramilitaries entered El Salado village on 18 February 2000, leaving 61 people dead and forcibly displacing more than three thousand. It was one of Colombia's more brutal massacres in recent years, and almost a decade later those responsible have still not been brought to justice, something for which Colombian Vice President Fracisco Santos recently asked forgiveness.
