Colombian government approves necessary acts for re-election referendum

senado, colombia news, referendum

The government won the majority vote with all four acts were passed in 35 minutes, reported daily El Tiempo.

After the Constitutional Court warned that the issue of unapproved meeting minutes was only the first error found in the presidential re-election referendum, the House of Representatives cleared the way for their approval.

The House of Representatives passed the conciliation act of 17 December 2008, in order to eliminate any type of irregularity in the adoption of the referendum, reported newspaper El Espectador.

Apparently the minutes of that meeting went unapproved due to forgetfulness and fatigue. On that day, at the last minute, the government convened extra sessions so that the initiative would pass into the second debate in the House, which went on until the early morning.

While initially there was a chance that the minutes of the plenary of the referendum would not be approved Wednesday, the government prevailed.
