Swine flu fatalities soared to 101 in Colombia

Colombian authorities anounced Tuesday that the number of swine flu fatalities raised to 101, while 2,142 infected cases have been confirmed since the outbreak May.

"2,142 confirmed cases of the pandemic virus H1N1/09 were reported in Colombia until October 5, including 101 deaths. The presence of the virus have been confirmed in 27 departments, 4 disitricts, and 147 municipalities," the Ministry of Social Welfare reported in a press release.

President Alvaro Uribe was reported infected with the virus after his return from an Unasur summit in Argentina September. He is now doing well and back to work.

The first confirmed case of AH1N1 was reported on May 3 in Zipaquira in the center of Colombia, the first fatality was reported in Bogota a month later.
