Colombian prosecutors impeded delivery of corpses of kipnapped

Colombia news - coffin

Colombian prosecutors impeded the delivery of 10 corpses of people who died while kidnapped by the leftist FARC guerrillas, the newspaper El Espectador reported Friday.

Gustavo Adolfo Muñoz, director of the GNO New Hope for the Kidnapped, alleged that bureaucracy imposed by the Prosecutor General Office impeded the delivery of the 10 corpses to their realtives.

"The name for this is red tape, bureaucracy, that roams around the country," Muñoz told the newspaper about the prosecutors' ban on the corpse delivery. The report says that the NGO had failed to meet the legal proceedings for corpse delivery.

"I don't understand why there is an exclusory humanitarian accord, that treats the kidnapped according to their social status," Muñoz said. According to the activist, the bodies belong to people from the Department of Valle del Cauca who were kipnapped on different dates by FARC for extorsive purposes.

"These are people no one has ever marched for, no international organization has ever advocated for," Muñoz added.

The NGO had planned a very solemn ceremony at Cali's Catholic Cathedral, with a mass by the city's archbishop.

Muñoz explained that he tried to get the corpses from the guerrilla since 2003.
