Bogota confirms 'No more Chavez' march not welcome on main square

Colombia news - No More Chavez

Bogota turned down the "No more Chavez" march's request to gather at the Plaza de Bolivar in downtown Bogota, Clara Lopez, the city's Government Secretary, confirmed Thursday.

Lopez said that three different groups: marchers against Chavez, marchers against Uribe, and marchers for the protection of Bogota's eastern hills requested authorization to use the Bolivar Square Friday, but permission had already been granted to the Green Heart Foundation to hold a weekend event featuring the Chinese opera ensemble Folk Music Group of TiajinSong and Dance Theater and 75 Colombian artists. Green Heart Foundation is a non-profit organization that raises funds in behalf of the police officers' widows and orphans.

The march against Chavez was called last August 26th through Facebook and Twitter and has been supported by groups in Colombia, Venezuela, the United States, Peru, Ecuador, and several countries in Europe and Asia. The march organizers said they expect 50 or 60 million worldwide to march against the Venezuelan President.

Andrew,
Thanks for the comments; although, I find it interesting that the permit was granted to the Green Heart Foundation a non-profit organization that raises funds in behalf of the police officers' widows and orphans. Interesting contrast mostly considering the mass murders around the world by police ie the disappeared in Argentina and NYPD. I definitely agree that Colombia has bigger issues than to hold a march against Chavez. This is why on Sept 24th Uribe will be in NYC where there is a protest being called from 12-2pm.

How come the people planning to march spend their time giving back to their city by volunteering some of their time? Be a real Patriot and serve your communities! Oh I forgot they would have to come in contact with poor people!

I think we all know that the phrase "serve your communities", while sounding noble and well intentioned, is actually socialist code that really means "Don'y worry that Chavez is coming........Embrace the Bolivarian (socialist) concept....... work in your communities and wait for Chavez to come save us all. What a bunch of CRAP!!!!!

Bluebird - you are absolutely right. Community service is socialist code. If only someone told us gringos before we went and elected a community organizer (i.e. socialist) president! What the HELL were we thinking? And now that Chavez has installed a puppet regime in the US, he's going after even bigger fish - Colombia. Good thing the Uribe just made that deal to allow access to all those bases so the gringos can protect us...but...oh shit...the gringos are commies now too...wtf? I CANT KEEP THE CONSPIRACIES STRAIGHT!!!

Maybe we should pass a referendum allowing Bush to run for president again? Thoughts?
