Comptroller General to investigate risky use of public funds

Colombia news - vergrootglas

Colombia's Comptroller General's Office opened an investigation against municipal and departmental administrations for the possible irresponsible investing of funds for health and education.

According to a press release, the Comptroller General opened disciplinary processes against the administrations of Villavicencio, Castilla la Nueva, Meta, and Casanare for allegedly investing General System of Participation and royalty surpluses in risky financial titles.

General System of Participation funds must be used to finance education, health care, and other social services in behalf of poor population in the territorial entities.

The same press release says that the Comptroller General's office opened processes against 7 departmental and 220 municipal administrations for failing to submit financial reports on time.

Cesar, Guajira, GuanĂa, Guaviare, Magdalena, Sucre, and Vichada have not submitted the reports that were due July 23.
