Former congressman Mario Uribe claims that Colombia's Prosecutor General is still unfairly persecuting him, due to accusations leveled against him of receiving two notaries in Medellin and Bogota in exchange for his support of the first re-election of his cousin, President Alvaro Uribe.
In a public statement first published by El Informador, Uribe said that "some of the national media have said that the 5th and 6th notaries of Medellin and the 13th notary of Bogota were allegedly given to Mario Uribe for supporting President Uribe's first re-election. Invalidating this assertion, media close to the Medellin notary found that the 5th notary was at the time under the charge of Juan Jose Rivera, who in turn returned the notary in propriety.
"Rivera, the notary in charge, was one of the founders and first secretary of the Liberal Democratic Sector, critical of Alvaro and Mario Uribe, and a friend of the President for over thirty years."
The President's cousin is currently also under investigation for alleged ties to paramilitary ties.
