Relations with Colombia are frozen and getting even colder: Chavez

colombia news - hugo chavez

Venezuela President Hugo Chavez said Sunday his country's relations with neighbor Colombia are frozen and are getting colder, following UNASUR's attempt to settle differences over U.S. military access to Colombian bases.

In an lengthy press conference, Chavez accused Colombia of conspiring against neighbor countries and warned the frozen relations may result in a rupture between the two states.

Chavez fiercely opposes the plan to allow the U.S. to conduct counterterrorism and counternarcotics operations from Colombian soil and accuses the U.S. of seeking domination in South America.

Chavez felt attacked by Colombian President Alvaro Uribe at the UNASUR summit on the bases and said the avoiding of a rupture of ties "depends solely on Colombia."
