Chavez should not sow more hatred: Colombia

Colombia news - Luis Alfonso Hoyos

Colombia's ambassador to the Organization of American States filed a formal complaint against Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for interfering in internal affairs of the country.

Colombian Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Alfonso Hoyos, said Chavez' recent statements on Colombian politics has worsened tensions between the two countries.

"We hope that President Hugo Chavez uses his capacities, his talents to collectively construct the continent, without sowing more hatred, respecting differences and not intervening in Colombian internal affairs," Hoyos told the inter-American organization.

"We do not tolerate this in any way. And finally, since the OAS works by the principle of nonintervention, we notify to use all national and international organizations to prevent intervention [by Chavez]," the Ambassador said.

In his Sunday television program "Alo Presidente", Chavez had said the "Colombian bourgeoisie is afraid that the people of Colombia hears Chavez' voice" and instructed his cabinet to seek ways to spread his Bolivarian message inside Colombia.

On Tuesday, the Venezuelan President announced he was preparing to break off diplomatic relations with Colombia.
