Ecuador President Rafael Correa wants his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe to undergo a lie detector test to determine "who is who in Latin America."
In an interview with Colombian newscast Noticias Uno, Correa, who has frequently been accused of having received financial help from Colombia's largest rebel group FARC, reiterated earlier statements that Ecuador's northern neighbor is a destabilizing factor in the region.
According to the Ecuadorean Head of State, Colombia is an "agressor" and continuously trying to drag its neighbors into its violent conflict, problems with guerrillas and drug trafficking.
Correa warned that it would respond to any violation of the sovereignty of its territory, like the 2008 attack on a FARC camp in Ecuadorean territory that killed the guerrillas' number two Raul Reyes, with war.
Correa said that Ecuador is still waiting to receive the 39,000 computer files seized in this operation and are used by Colombia to substantiate accusations that the guerrillas financially supported his 2006 presidential campaign and had close contact with former members of the Correa administration.
Colombia and Ecuador have strain relations since March 2008 when Colombian armed forces attacked a the Ecuadorean camp of Raul Reyes.

... Ecuador and Colombia have bad relations for a much longer time. Remind you Ecuador still argues over the borderlines with Colombia. As it does with Peru. And some 15 years ago there were some skirmishes in the jungle between Ecuador and Colombia. But Ecuador has coca-plantations near the border as well. So there is the reason for the protection of the border. The links between Correa and FARC are too obvious. He, Correa, has to defend himself, as these attacks undermine his position in Ecuador very badly. |

... Correa doesnot need a lie detector test. We only need good investigative journalism to find out how big a liar he really is: he is so crooked that he will never walk straight. Correa showed part of the diary of Reyes he seemed to have during the interview with UNO. Alas: journalists made a thorough investigation of this so-called diary and they found out the diary is a fake. The handwriting is not of Reyes. Also the language used in the "Diary of Reyes" was not that of a Colombian, rather made by a guy from Ecuador or Perú. |
