Army claims to have killed 40 FARC guerrillas

Colombia news - army

The Colombian army says that it has killed 40 guerrillas in an offensive aimed at the FARC's eastern bloc, commanded by senior FARC member 'Mono Jojoy'.

On Saturday, the Colombian army already claimed the death of 16 guerrillas in central Colombia.

The army is involved in heavy fighting in the Meta department, trying to capture or kill Jorge 'Mono Jojoy' Briceño, one of the FARC's most famous and wanted leaders.

According to General Javier Florez, commander of the joint strike force involved in the offensive, 76 guerrillas deserted during the attacks.
