Proof of life of hostages underway: Cordoba

Colombia news - Piedad Cordoba

Colombian opposition Senator Piedad Cordoba said she is expecting proof of life of hostages held by the FARC.

After a meeting with two Monsignor Pedro Rubiano and Monsignor Ruben Salazar, two high clergies of the Catholic church in Colombia, the Senator said that evidence of the life of hostages already is underway.

Cordoba said she didn't know of how many hostages she will be receiving proof of life.

The Senator said not to have had direct contact with the FARC as this is not allowed by the government, and that the guerrillas unilatirally opted for this.

Cordoba was recently was allowed to be involved in the release of hostages again, but on the condition that the FARC release all hostages and surrender the remains of three hostages who died in captivity.

Cordoba considers this demand "unrealistic" as the FARC have offered to release two hostages, one of whom has been in the jungle for more than eleven years.

The FARC holds 24 members of the armed forces prison in the jungle.
