Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Perez Esquivel Thursday urged Colombia's president Alvaro Uribe to meet with Senator Piedad Cordoba to discuss details about her participation in the liberation of FARC hostages.

"We call on president Alvaro Uribe to meet with Senator Piedad Cordoba as requested to define her participation in the release process," Perez said in an open letter.

The petition is signed by "hundreds" of human rights defenders, activists, writers and politicians from countries like Belgium, Spain, the United States and France among others.

Perez also supports the work of Cordoba and 'Colombians for Peace' in the letter. 'Colombian for Peace' is an "initiative of dialogue, mediation and facilitation. It represents the Colombian society who seek peace with justice."

One week ago, Uribe authorized Cordoba to participate in negotiations to free 24 FARC hostages.

According to Perez, the authorization of Cordoba "can mean a breakthrough not only in humanitarian but also in political solutions to the armed conflict of which Colombia has suffered for more than four decades."
