Colombian authorities Thursday confirmed five new AH1N1 cases in the country, raising the number of patients carrying the flu to 190. To prevent the further spread of the influenza, public schools in Bogota will start one hour later from next Tuesday.

All five cases are from Cali. The three minors and two women are allowed no visitors and are recuperating.

To prevent the further spread of the AH1N1 virus among children, the Ministry of National Education Thursday decided to start public schools one hour later from next Tuesday, July 21. The classes for students under seven years will begin between 7.30AM and 8AM.

Private schools in Bogota can apply the measure optionally, Secretary of the District Education, Abel Rodriguez told Radio Santa Fe.

Authorities say that children are most at risk to contract the flu in the early morning hours because of the intense climate changes with low temperatures, wind and rain.
