Investigated PG candidate not disqualified

Juan angel Palacio

The aspiring Prosecutor General who is investigated for bribery will not be disqualified from the elections, the Supreme Court ruled Monday.

Juan Angel Palacio is accused of trying to have bribed members of the State Council while he was a magistrate of this judicial body.

The Supreme Court decided Monday that Palacio can still run for the PG elections, El Espectador reported. The candidate will only be disqualified in case of a conviction.

The Prosecutor General's Office is investigating accusations by assistant judge of the Council of State, Hugo Alberto Marin, that Palacio had tried to convince his colleagues to take decisions that would protect his then-boss Mauricio Fajardo, radio station La W reported earlier that day.

Palacio is one of three candidates President Uribe pushed forward to succeed the current Prosecutor General Mario Iguaran the end of this month.
