Two 'recicladores', men who seek recyclable products in street garbage for a living, were murdered in what the local ombudsman called an act of "social cleansing."
According to authorities the men were killed by an explosive that was hidden in a box wherein the 'reciclistas' thought was food.
They had been given the box by two men who had told them the box contained food. When they opened the box, the explosive went off. Both men died. Two other reciclistas were injured in the attack and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The Cali ombudsman called the murder social cleansing aimed at the most vulnerable of society. Police told media they were investigating the double homicide.
