Betancourt asks Government not 'to play' with FARC hostage releases

Ingrid Betancourt

Ingrid Betancourt, the French-Colombian politician who was released from FARC captivity one year ago, called Thursday on Colombia's Government not "to play" with the liberation of FARC hostages.

The former Colombian presidential candidate Betancourt said she hopes that the Government of President Alvaro Uribe and the FARC are making progress in efforts to seek the release of dozens of hostages.

"I hope the intentions are serious and that they are not playing with the feelings of families and hostages," Betancourt told local media.

The former hostage made the statement one day after Uribe authorized Senator Piedad Cordoba to participate in the release of those who are still in captivity of the FARC.

"The involvement of Piedad Cordoba is very important and her presence garanties the life of the hostages," Betancourt added.
