Former DAS director accused of 3 crimes in wiretap scandal

Former DAS director Maria del Pilar Hurtado is accused of three crimes regarding the wiretapping scandal of Colombia's intelligence agency, radio station La Fm revealed Thursday.

Colombia's Prosecution called on del Pilar Hurtado on 24 June for investigation on the illegal monitoring of Supreme Court magistrates, opposition politicians and journalists.

According to La Fm, the Prosecution decided to raise charges against the former DAS director for forging public documents, conspiracy to commit crimes and abuse of power.

The Prosecution found that the former intelligence chief "agreed, allowed and consented that members of permanent operations [...] conducted various illegal activities to intrude the privacy of citizens".

Furthermore, del Pilar Hurtado allowed that that the G3 unit worked secretely to avoid any violation of legality, teh Prosecutor General's Office claims. 

The former DAS director is also accused of falsifying certifications for claiming that she did not order the illegal monitoring.

Del Pilar Hurtado denied the charges of the Prosecution and assured her cooperation in the investigation to determine who ordered the wiretapping.
