Thousands in Colombia march for gay rights

Colombia news - Gay pride

Plastic surgeons must have been working overtime in the lead up to the annual Gay Pride March held Sunday around the country. Fake boobs and butts were on display as thousands of Colombia's gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals took to the streets to celebrate their sexual preferences and defend their rights.

In the capital Bogota, gay rights defenders marched from the National Park to the political center of the city, Plaza Simon Bolivar.

In Medellin, two separate marches were held due to "political and economic reasons". According to actualidadgay.com, activist group and event organizer La Corporación El Otro charged a high entrance fee to participate in the parade. As a result LGBT Antioquia decided to organize their own parade. Spectators seemed to enjoy the novelty of two parades, mixing with the participants, dancing alongside the floats amid a sea of rainbow gay pride flags.

In Cali, the Gay Pride parade was held Saturday without any reported incidents.

In a step forward in gay rights history, Colombia's Constitutional Court granted equal civil, political, social and economic rights to gay couples in January.
