Colombia and Ecuador continue fighting over FARC-camp bombing

Colombia news - camp reyes

Colombia and Ecuador continue fighting over the march 2008 bombing of an Ecuadorean FARC-camp. Ecuador says the death of an Ecuadorean citizen in the camp was an "extrajudicial execution." Colombia denies.

According to Ecuador, says that forensic evidence shows that Ecuadorean citizen Franklin Aisalla Molina died from "numerous blows inflicted with force to the cranium". Ecuador blames these blows on the Colombian armed forces who entered Ecuadorean territory in the operation that killed the FARC's #2 Raul Reyes and 25 others.

Colombia's Ministry for Foreign Relations insist that Ecuadorean Aisalla Molina died in the bombing of the camp. The autopsy report from the National Forensics Institute do not allow other interpretations, a statement by the ministry added.

Ecuador announced recently to sue Colombia before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for the death of Aisalla.

The IACHR still evaluates if it will accept the lawsuit or not, which could take up to three years.

Colombia's incursion on Ecuadorean land led to an ongoing suspension of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
