Colombia to denounce FARC crimes to UN

Colombia news - FARC guerrilla

Colombian Police announced Thursday that they plan to report 37 crimes against humanity committed by guerrillas to United Nations High Commission for Human Rights (UNHCHR) and the International Red Cross.

National Police Commissioner Oscar Naranjo said that that police will hand the two international organizations a report documenting crimes committed by guerrillas between January and May of this year.

The crimes allegedly caused the death of 26 people, injured 72 others, and affected 21 private and public properties, including a church, a school and a service station, El Espectador reported Thursday. The report will also detail raids, harassment, assaults of the civilian population and the ambushing of army patrols.

It will be presented before the convention in Geneva.

The announcement follows a comment by the director of the UNHCHR in Colombia that he is "concerned" about increasingly polarized views on human rights and peace in the country.
