Evidence in Soacha case is 'confusing and contradictory': defense

Colombia news - Soacha

The defense attorneys of six of the members of the army who are accused of the extrajudicial executions of Soacha civilians want their clients to be released because the evidence against them is "confusing, contradictory and inconsistent."

The hypothesis of the prosecution that the defendents bought guns on the black market to place them as evidence of the victims being members of an illegal armed group is unlogical, one of the lawyers told the court.

The prosecution disagreed and told the judge that there is enough evidence to come to a conviction of the suspects.

35 members of the army are on trial for the forced disappearance and murder of eleven young men from Soacha, a town just south of Bogota. The soldiers allegedly recruited the men to then kill them and present them as guerrillas killed in combat to collect a reward.
