Court investigates 33 Congressmen for possible bribery over Uribe's 2006 re-election

Colombia news - Yidis Medina

Colombia's Supreme Court is investigating 33 Congressmen who may have received favors for allowing the 2006 re-election of President Alvaro Uribe, newspaper El Espectador reported Tuesday.

Congressmen Yidis medina, Teodolindo Avendaño and Ivan Diaz Mateus already were sentenced for having received bribes from government officials to approve the constitutional change needed to allow Uribe to run again for the 2006 presidency.

According to the newspaper, the conviction of the three does not mean the end of 'Yidispolitica'. 33 of the lawmakers who gave their blessing for the constitutional change are being investigated for allegedly having committed the same crime, after relatives of these Congressmen received jobs in the administration following the vote.
