Colombia news - Uribe and Obama

U.S. President Barack Obama and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe will meet at the White House on June 29, the Colombian ambassador to Washington confirmed on RCN Radio Tuesday.

Colombian ambassador Carolina Branco confirmed the meeting, saying "there are a series of ideas to discuss, already in teh planning stages, that we want to advance into concrete projects".

"It will be an opportunity to look discuss the topic of energy, on which we want to work with the U.S. to strengthen different energy sources and to make them attainable to everyone in the region [of Latin America]," she said.

Colombian authorities had eagerly anticipated the confirmation of the meeting.

Colombia depends on the U.S. for a significant part of the financing of its controversial war against coca production and leftist rebels and has been seeking the U.S. ratification of a free trade agreement made with the previous administration under President George W. Bush.
