Prominent FARC commander killed: Army

Colombia news - Eladio

The leader of FARC's Jacobo Arenas column, alias 'Eladio', died in combat with the military, the Colombian Army reported Monday.

'Eladio', who fought for the FARC for 16 years, was allegedly in charge of planning terrorist attacks and recruiting minors.

According to the Army report, 'Eladio' intimidated farmers and traders from Algeria, Sonson and Francisco, all in the Antioquia department.

Authorities offered a reward of 30 million pesos, around U.S.$ 4 million, for information leading to 'Eladio's capture.
