Kidnapped Councilor's wife rejects military rescue plan

Colombia news - Jose Armando Acuña

The wife of José Armando Acuña, the recently kidnapped councilor of Garzon, Huila, rejects Colombian President Alvaro Uribe's military rescue plan.

"The most important thing is to save Jose's live", his wife Nubia Segura told newspaper La Nacion in an interview published Monday. The woman said she was still waiting to talk to Uribe after the President canceled the meeting they had planned.

Colombia's President announced last Thursday to continue with military operations to secure the release of all hostages. Families of hostages criticize the Colombian government for their strategy fearing that military operations endanger the lives of hostages.

"There is no need for rolling heads", Jose Silva Elkin, Vice President of the Council of Garzon, said. "Instead, we need to increase the manpower of the security forces", he added.
