Colombia to support US environment plan

Colombia news - Carlos Costa

Colombia will support the environment programs proposed by the United States for the Americas, Environment Minister Carlos Costa Posada said after a meeting with U.S. ambassador William Brownfield Monday.

"President Obama announced to establish a program regarding energy and climate change. This program is already being developed by the United States and they asked us to provide recommendations and ideas", Costa Posada told local newspapers.

The Minister of Environment sought ambassador Brownfield for a special treatment since Colombia "is one of the cleanest countries in the region regarding greenhouse gases".

"The U.S. government has expressed great interest and support for the environmental issues in our country. We welcome this and will continue working to preserve it", he added.
