Forced disappearances double in Colombia: NGOs

Reports of forced disappearances in Colombia have increased in the last two years, according to Human Rights Organizations.

The official figures of forced disappearances differ, while the United Nations reported 17 thousand cases, NGOs stated 24 thousand and Colombia's Prosecutor General 50 thousand, Radio Caracol reported Wednesday.

Luz Estela Aponte, of the human rights organization Corporation Reiniciar, claims that cases of disappearances are not the priority of the Colombian justice system and that behind each "false positive" there are more forced disappearances hidden.

For this reason, the Corporation Reiniciar decided to launch the campaign "Find them for justice", to educate the public about the human rights abuses through an exhibition of photos and interactive media of the victims.

In the Santander department alone 800 people are reported missing
